First trip to the Emergency room :(

Unfortunately the Doctor sent us to the ER on friday evening. I spent about an hour debating to go or not... since it was for Gracelyn I decided I would rather go and make sure everything is okay. Poor baby girl had had a fever of around 100 for about three consecutive days and had a coarse cough and rattling in her chest. Her fever was at 99.3 when we left and by the time we got called into triage her temp had gone up to 100.8. We then waited for about an hour to get called into a room. They had to use a suction hose in her nose so that she could breathe (Boy did she hate that) After that they listened to her chest and because they heard a little wheezing they considered pneumonia. However, they were hoping for the RSV test to come back positive... if it didn't, they would have to do more tests and x rays and urine samples and all this blood work.

Unfortunately it didn't... so we began the long evening. They couldn't get an IV started on her so they had to keep poking her... those screams got worse with each prick :( They couldn't believe how strong she was! She was laying flat on the bed and when they started the needle she would do a sit-up and completely lift herself off the bed... she was hurting poor thing and by the time they succeeded in her foot, I had lost it and the tears wouldn't stop coming! After THAT traumatic experience they had to get an X ray. She had to sit in this little straddle seat and David had to hold her arms up straight as they locked her in this plastic box type thing... goodness... she didn't like that either. Thankfully, the results came back negative for the pneumonia. The last thing they needed was to put a catheter in her for a urine test. One last suction... she was hoarse by this because of screaming so loud... and after 6 hours we were able to go home. Her temp was at 101 so they gave her Tylenol and sent us home around 11p.m.

We are waiting for the second RSV test results, which we are supposed to get back on monday. I am almost hoping for this to be positive because then it would explain all the high fevers and mucus in her throat and chest.

Today her fever is a low grade but we have to constantly use saline and suction her little nosey... I know it is better for her, but I hate having to hold her down and cause her to scream and cry :(

Please pray that she gets better quickly... she is just not that happy baby she always is right now, and though we love how clingy and cuddly she is... we know she is not feeling well.

Blessings,
The Noland Three

Oh my gosh Amanda! Yikes! One of my biggest fears is having to take Kaiden to the ER for an IV. I am so sorry you guys had to go through that. Poor little Gracie!

Amanda - I just read your blog! I know from experience how traumatic the hospital experience can be, both for baby and mommy! Have you gotten the results back from the second test? How is Gracie feeling now?

Oh no! What an aweful experiance for all of you! Please let us know how Gracie is doing. Hope she feels better. Poor Mommy and Daddy for having to watch their baby girl get stuck so many times, I'm sure that would of been so very hard. You are in our prayers. My parents will be moved out of their house in two weeks, after that things should be a bit more calm for us and we would LOVE to have dinner with you guys! We really want to meet baby Gracie!

Oh no! I totally understand how you feel. We took Colin to urgent care at 3 AM on Monday morning and they called 911 to get an ambulance because he was in respiratory distress. We were admitted to the hospital that morning and we just got to come home yesterday. He does have RSV.
The pediatrician we were working with told us that the rapid RSV test often comes back negative when they really do have it (ours did this) but the second one will often be positive. This was what happened to us.
I hope she is feeling better soon and that you are able to get some answers!
